Conventional (!) masts

The mast on the left is Geodis, and the mast the right is PRB. They have three sets of long, swept back spreaders. The notion seems to be to design a bomb-proof rig which can tolerate a great deal of abuse without falling down.  This is at the expense of an adjustable mast in terms of bend. With mainsails as big as these are, with massive amounts of roach, it appears that they ignore the comparatively small changes brought about by mast bend, and just reef or un-reef the sail. The yellow rectangles you can see on Geodis' mast are reflective tapes which indicate where the head of the mainsail is at the different reefs.
